4th of July Celebration. Contrary to other postings the Town of Independence 4th of July Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010.  The Flag Raising Ceremony will take place prior to start of the parade at the Historic 1908 Courthouse.  The parade will start from the Independence Methodist Church at 10am.  There will be a watermelon eating contest at 2pm on the McKnight lot across from the 1908 Courthouse.  7pm there will be a free concert by UPLAND EXPRESS at the Grayson County High School practice football field and the fireworks show will follow at 10pm.  For further information please contact the Events Committee Chairman, Mrs. Carol Lundgren, 773-3507.

The Independence Special Events Committee is holding its regular scheduled monthly meetings every 2nd Monday, 5:30pm at the Independence Fire Department. For more information email Carol Lundgren at: lundgren@ls.net

  The Mayor has called a Special Town Council meeting to discuss business settlement agreement on Monday, June 28, 2010, 6:30pm. The meeting will be held at the Independence Town Hall located at 136 East Main Street, Independence, VA 24348.

   The next Regular Scheduled Independence Town Council meeting is Tuesday, May 13th, 7pm at the Independence Fire Hall located at 329 Davis Street, Independence. 

The VA/NC Water Authority next regular scheduled monthly meeting is Thursday, May 15th, 10am at the Grayson National Bank Conference Center located at the west end of Guynn's Shopping Center, 558 East Main St. Independence. 

Water bills due by 5pm on the 5th of each month.

Water bill past due penalty assessed on the 6th day of each month.
